Big cash transfer a new clue to missing German businessman

INVESTIGATION of the mysterious disappearance of a German businessman in Chonburi last week made some headway with an unusual  transfer of over 2 million baht discovered while three foreigners were questioned, one of them a woman, as were his Thai wife and children, Thai Rath and Naewna newspapes said today (July 10).

Mr. Hans-Peter Mack, 62, a real estate businessman, disappeared after driving from his house at a housing estate in Nong Prue subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, around noon on July 4 to go meet a foreign broker at Jomtien beach to discuss the purchase of a land plot on Koh Samui worth hundreds of millions baht.

His Thai wife Ms. Piraya, or Party, 24, and two sons have offered 3 million baht reward to anyone who finds him and 100,000 baht for the recovery of his Mercedes Benz sedan which was found abandoned at a condo in this province yesterday.

Police investigators have traced the unusual transfer of over 2 million baht which may be connected to his disappearance but have not found him so far and do not know his fate.

Pol. Maj. Gen. Teerachai Chamnanmor, commander Provincial Police Region 2, and Pol. Col. Tawee Kudlaeng, superintendent of Nong Prue police station, had called two unidentified foreigners for questioning yesterday. They kept silent throughout with their lawyers speaking on their behalf.

They had previously questioned a foreign woman but she too kept quiet letting her lawyer answer the questions for her.

They later searched a pool villa in Nong Prue subdistrict which is the residence of one of the foreigners questioned but did not find anything suspicious there. Surveillance camera showed that Mack drove into this alley with his mobile phone being disconnected around this villa.

Meanwhile local residents told police that they saw a woman accompanying the man who drove Mack’s Mercedes Benz sedan to the car park next to the condo and then left it there.

In the middle of last night police questioned Mack’s Thai wife and his sons again to get more clues to his disappearance but this information is confidential.
