BHUMJAITHAI MP Suchada Zhang Tansap was today (Oct.5) formally accused of breaking the law by possessing an undeclared, pricey watch without officially declaring it to the National Anti-Corruption Commission as part of assets and liabilities in shared possession with her spouse, namely Taiyang Zhang, who is currently suspected of involvement in a transnational money-laundering scam.
Activist lawyer Noraset Nanongtoom filed a petition to the anti-graft agency calling for investigation into the allegation that the woman lawmaker of the Bhumjaithai, core of the current coalition government, had broken the law with failure to officially declare the possession of her Rolex Cosmograph Daytona estimated to cost as much as three million baht. Suchada and Taiyang had earlier declared 1.9 billion baht in shared possession of assets to the anti-graft agency without mentioning the expensive, luxury watch.
Even if the Bhumjaithai MP claimed to have borrowed the luxury watch from a friend or a relative, the first-time lawmaker of Chaiyapum was legally otherwise obliged to declare it as a liability item and if she claimed it was just a fake item, she could probably be charged with conspiring to violate the anti-piracy law despite her current status as representative of the people, the lawyer said.
Meanwhile, Suchada and Taiyang Zhang, an Australian national of Chinese descent, were formally summoned by the House Committee on Law, Justice & Human Rights to testify at parliament on the upcoming Wednesday in response to allegations of her spouse being suspected of involvement in the money-laundering scam over international cryptocurrency industry since the last several years.
House Committee Chair/People’s MP Rangsiman Rome has recently charged during a fresh interpellation with Digital Economy & Society Minister Chaichanok Chidchob that Taiyang had reportedly loaned 1.4 billion baht in allegedly laundered cash to a crypto trading firm based in Singapore, namely Three Arrows Capital, which was declared bankrupt by a British Virgin Islands court in 2022.
The digital economy & society minister, who concurrently acts as Bhumjaithai secretary-general, is son of de facto party boss Newin Chidcob.
On behalf of her spouse, Suchada has recently lodged a libel lawsuit to the Central Investigation Bureau against Rangsiman whom she has publicly dared to produce pieces of evidence to substantiate his suspected scam allegations against him.
