THAI narcotics police together with a US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) official in Thailand smashed a Nigerian drug trafficking ring based here with four Nigerians and an Ivory Coast national as well as three Thai women being arrested, Amarin TV said this afternoon (Oct. 22).
In mounting Operation Mouse Hunt altogether 17 locations in Bangkok Metropolitan area were searched with this leading to the seizure of 350 grammes of heroin, 49 grammes of cocaine, six grammes of crystal methamphetamine (Ice), four vehicles and 17 baht weight of gold jewellery worth a total of 2.5 million baht.
Pol. Lt. Gen. Kirisak Tantinwachai said the head of the drug gang, known as Mr. M, lives in Nigeria. He gives orders to Mr. Joseph (surname withheld), or Mickey, who resides in Thailand and is married to a Thai woman named Tassanee to buy these drugs while his wife has opened bank accounts to receive drug money transfers.
This gang, which had sold drugs to tourists at entertainment venues in Bangkok and nearby areas, had also hired a factory to mix cocaine with chalk and baking soda and press them into crayons for smuggling to other countries including Australia, New Zealand, and Taiwan.
Investigation reveals that this gang has 20 members and had used the drug money to buy children’s clothes, shoes and dried fish for shipment to Nigeria.
While these drug gangs had earlier lived in the downtown area, they have now moved to the outskirts of the city to keep a low profile.
