THE three German suspects in the murder of a German businessman in Chonburi last week were this morning (July 13) taken to Pattaya Provincial Court to apply for initial 12-day detention, Thai Rath newspaper said.
Pol. Lt. Col. Vachirawit Wisutsereephan and 10 other policemen took Mrs. Petra Christl Grundgreif, 54, Mr. Olaf Thorsten Brinkmann, 52, and Ms. Nicole Frevel, 52, to court at 8.30 a.m. All looked stressed, kept their heads down and did not answer reporters’ questions.
Brinkmann and Grundgreif have been charged with deliberately murdering Mr. Hans-Peter Mack, 62, and hiding and disguising his dead body while Frevel, who tried to kill herself by slashing her wrists, has been charged with hiding and disguising the dead body.
It is unlikely that they will be granted bail while Immigration Police are moving to revoke their visas and seize their passports.
Meanwhile Mr. Shahrukh Kareem Uddin, 27, a Pakistani with Thai nationality, who was arrested in Kanchanaburi yesterday while attempting to flee to Myanmar, was detained separately at Bang Lamung police station after he was brought back to Chonburi late last night.
Police do not want the Brinkmann and Grundgreif to talk to Uddin as they believe he may help solve the case with the other two suspects keeping mum.
Mack disappeared after driving from his house at a housing estate in Nong Prue subdistrict, Bang Lamung district, around noon on July 4 to go meet a foreign broker at Jomtien beach to discuss the purchase of a land plot on Koh Samui worth hundreds of millions baht.
On Monday night his dismembered body was found in a freezer at a townhouse in Chokchai Garden Home 1 estate which had been rented by Frevel.
The body had been cut up into 13 parts separately placed in black plastic bags and put into this freezer which was plugged in at a bedroom. His body parts were sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine for autopsy.
