Anutin defends Newin’s right-hand man over exam fraud conspiracy

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

PRIME MINISTER Anutin Charnvirakul today (Aug.25) spoke in defence of a right-hand man for de facto Bhumjaithai boss Newin Chidchob, categorically dismissing testimony earlier made by one of the suspects in a fraud conspiracy over last year’s exams for personnel at local government units which allegedly involved that particular person.

The prime minister was referring to his adviser, namely Thongchua Chartkitcharoen, who is primarily known as the right-hand man for the de facto Bhumjaithai boss and who had been allegedly involved in the preplanned scam.

However, Thongchua has not yet been formally charged of involvement in the fraud over the exams held by the Department of Local Administration allegedly perpetrated in exchange for payoffs in cash from thousands of applicants desperately looking for jobs at municipalities and sub-district administrations, also known as Or Bor Tor, throughout the country.

Without elaborating, the prime minister who concurrently acts as leader of the largest ruling party bluntly contended that his adviser had been by no means involved among others in the fraud conspiracy and repeatedly assured that anyone else who may have been evidently involved will most certainly be brought to justice.

Anutin was responding to news reports that the prime suspect, identified as Ruengdej Sirikich, director of Srinakharinwirot University’s Educational & Psychological Test Bureau, had testified before the House Committee on Law, Justice & Human Rights to the extent that Thongchua had quietly contacted him as part of the organised fraud in which two former chiefs of the Department of Local Administration, namely Narucha Kosacivilize and Thirut Supavibulpol, had also been accused of involvement.

Similar fraud conspiracies over recruitment exams for government personnel had allegedly not only occurred at the Department of Local Administration but the Department of Provincial Administration dating back to the time of former interior minister Chavarat Charnvirakul, father of the current prime minister, nearly over the last couple of decades.
