THE JOINT House/Senate session to pick a prime minister got underway at 9.30 a.m. this morning (July 13) with Pheu Thai leader Chonlanan Srikaew nominating Move Forward leader Pita Limjaroenrat to take the helm of the government while House Speaker Wan Muhamad Noor Matha said he will be neutral and will allow both positive and negative views to be aired during the debate, Naewna newspaper said.
Wan Noor also set the debate’s timetable with senators given two hours to air their views while MPs from 18 political parties got four hours with two hours allocated to the eight parties in coalition led by Move Forward.
The atmosphere around the Parliament was lively today with the media horde on hand to cover the debate while on Thahan road a big crowd of Move Forward followers and vendors had gathered since early morning. A tent has been set up there amid tight security both within the Parliament and the surrounding area.
