AS SONGKRAN FESTIVAL draws to an end a shooting erupted at Royal City Avenue, a government-designated entertainment zone off Rama 9 road, at 1 a.m this morning (Apr. 17) with eight young revellers getting injured and the gunman immediately arrested, Sanook.com said.
Makkasan police rushed to the clubbing zone upon getting a report of a brawl breaking out among youths and a firearm being fired.
At the entrance of an entertainment venue where a Songkran Festival concert was being held police found more than 10 bullet casings of an unknown calibre firearm scattered on the ground as were some liquor bottles with some objects thrown in nearby water tanks.
Youths at the scene told police that the perpetrator walked towards a young man in front of the club and after quarrelling they started punching each other. The perpetrator then fired around 10 shots on the ground leading to some revellers getting injured.
The four merrimakers who suffered gunshot wounds were identified as Mr. Obniti (surname withheld), 26, who was taken to Bangkok Hospital; Ms. Jiraporn, 26, taken to Piyavate Hospital; Mr. Nat Thanon, 25, and Mr. Thitipon, 28, taken to Petcharavej Hospital.
In addition four other revellers got hurt while running away from the shooting.
