THE second phase of the construction of a Thai-Cambodian border security wall at Pong Nam Ron district in Chanthaburi is now over 70% complete with plans underway to proceed with the third phase amid no interference from the Khmer side, PPTVHD36 said today (Oct. 24).
The second phase construction has reached border marker No. 55, marking over 70% progress, and work is set to continue into third phase, extending to border marker No. 59, a distance of 3.62km, with this including the construction of a bridge across a canal.
Pol, Maj. Gen. Tharathep Tupanich, commander of the Chanthaburi Provincial Police, accompanied by Capt. Prachya Hantiam, commander of the Chanthaburi Marine Corps Task Force, in inspecting this border security wall. They focused on implementing measures to prevent and suppress illegal activities along the border, specifically unauthorised border crossings and the smuggling of contraband and other illicit goods.
In the first phase 1.310km of the wall was built, the second phase will stretch it further by 3.450km and the third phase adds 3.620km for a total of 8.380km.
However the construction of a bridge across the canal is still under review, with details being finalised for further action.
The second phase of building this border wall proceeded smoothly without any interference from Cambodian troops, unlike the issues that cropped up in the first phase.
