LARGE crowds of both Thai and foreign revellers packed Ratchadamri road in front of Central World shopping complex for the New Year countdown celebration that started in the evening, Thai Rath newspaper said.
The event, entitled “Central World Bangkok Countdown 2023 Times Square of Asia” was organised by this shopping complex together with Tourism Authority of Thailand, the police, Ratchaprasong Area Traders Association and eight other leading business organisations.
There was tight security across the road which was closed from Ratchaprasong to Pratunam intersection.
Merrymakers, mostly youths and teenagers including fans of Jung Ji-hoon or Rain, a South Korean singer and actor, started gathering in front of the concert stage from 2 p.m. even though the event was to start at 7 p.m.
An army of chart-topping Thai singers and bands were to entertain the huge crowds including Bowkylion, Violette Wautier, Oat Pramote, Joey Boy and 4 EVE with the show ending with a mini-concert by Rain.
The moment 2023 starts there will be an extravaganza of musical fireworks display lasting 15 minutes with this to be telecast on giant screens at Sathorn, Nana, Chidlom and Asoke Montri intersections.
