Authorities urged to find out if one-million-baht cash donated to Bhumjaithai laundered from casino

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

THE AUTHORITIES have been advised to look into allegations a sum of one million baht in cash earlier granted to the Bhumjaithai, core of the coalition government, may have been laundered from a Thai-owned casino business in Cambodia.

Former Democrat MP Sirichok Sopa called on the Election Commission and Anti-Money Laundering Office to find out whether the one million baht cash donation provided last year by Natcharee Sukcharoenkraisri, daughter of oil and casino tycoon Somboon “Sia Tue” Sukcharoenkraisri, to the ruling Bhumjaithai, steered behind the scenes by de facto party boss Newin Chidchob, may have been laundered from his casino business either in gambling dens or online such as the one named UFABET based in Cambodia.

UFABET, one of the top 10 online casinos which reportedly open today to flout the laws of Thailand where all gambling activities, either in gambling dens or online, are ultimately deemed illegal, is reportedly associated with one of Somboon’s gambling dens in Cambodia and run by his sons, including the one named Suriya Sukcharoenkraisri who had fruitlessly managed to offer 40 million baht in monthly payoff to Newin’s son/Digital Economy & Society Minister Chaichanok Chidchob in exchange for him to supposedly not shut down certain online casinos accessible to bettors in Thailand.

Besides, Sirichok suggested the authorities may as well delve into Natcharee’s packaging and drinking water businesses under suspicion they may have been financed by some money laundered from her family’s casino businesses, especially those in Cambodia where gambling activities are legal.

The digital economy & society minister, one of the 18 Bhumjaithai members of cabinet including Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul being targeted for grilling under censure debate scheduled from Dec.7 until Dec.10 and to be followed by no-confidence votes on Dec.11, has been allegedly held accountable for sustained government failures to eliminate online gambling businesses whilst Bhumjaithai MP Suchada Zhang Tansap whose Chinese spouse, namely Taiyang Zhang, has been accused of involvement in transnational money-laundering and online casino interests had ironically performed as his secretary last year.

The first-time lawmaker, accused of concealing her family’s assets albeit an estimated 1.9 billion baht having been earlier declared to the authorities, excused that her spouse had earlier sold off his paltry share in the Curacao-based online casino named Shuffle.

If finally found guilty in court of having accepted the donation of the allegedly laundered money, the Bhumjaithai could possibly be dissolved at the order of the court with all their executive board members being deprived of their MP status and banned from political activity at all levels for a number of years.
