Lawyer tells ex-Miss Thailand it’s too late to sell assets and return funds to foundation

SOON after police revealed they have frozen 15 to17 bank accounts over a scandal swirling around former Miss Thailand and actress Ms. Panadda Wongphudee, aka Boom, over allegations of misusing donations to Ongkorn Tham Dee (Doing Good) Foundation, a lawyer took a jab at her by pointing out it is now too late to sell assets and return funds to the foundation, Amarin TV said this evening.

Ms. Amnuayporn Maneewan, who is known as “Lawyer Kung” and runs the Facebook page “Lawyer Kung – Detective for Resolving Troubles”, posted a pointed remark: “Boom! It’s too late to sell your personal assets to reimburse the foundation. The Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD) has already seized the assets of Boom, Got (her husband Athip Anantawan), their family members, and the foundation!”

Pol. Maj.Gen. Thatphum Jaruprat, commander of the Economic Crime Suppression Division (ECD), said this evening  that approximately 15–17 bank accounts had been frozen including those of the foundation, Panadda herself, and her husband as of Monday.

Regarding other assets, such as real estate or firearms, authorities are currently examining the details and the circumstances under which they were acquired. The investigation focuses on whether these assets were obtained before or after the alleged offence. The financial audit covers the entire period, starting from when donations were first solicited under a personal capacity, dating back to 2015.

It was emphasised that this does not yet constitute a total seizure or permanent freezing of all assets; rather, the accounts have been frozen as a precautionary measure for the ongoing investigation. Authorities are currently determining which specific assets are relevant to the case and how they were acquired.

Under the legal framework for anti-money laundering, the date and time of the alleged offence serve as the benchmark. If an asset was acquired after the offence took place and falls within the scope of the alleged wrongdoing, it becomes subject to a freeze.

Each asset will be reviewed in detail during subsequent meetings to ensure clarity before any further action is taken. Assets are not seized the moment they are identified; should a seizure occur, it becomes the responsibility of the accused to contest the action and provide clarification to the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO).

Regarding field operations, the investigative team has been active for the past two to three days and has already submitted progress reports. Consequently, there is no need to station personnel at various locations associated with the foundation to prevent the removal of assets.

As for reports suggesting that some of Panadda’s properties are listed for sale, it is unlikely that such sales could easily be completed under the current circumstances.

As for individuals whose assets are subject to examination, the focus remains primarily on Panadda and her husband. Given the extensive scope of the investigation, authorities have not yet extended the inquiry to the assets of her children or parents.

Regarding the issuance of arrest warrants or summonses, officials are currently evaluating the evidence and piecing together the facts; the investigation is now more than halfway complete.

A clearer timeline for the legal proceedings is expected within one to two days, or by next Monday. The investigation is structured in phases, with the first—and most urgent—phase focusing specifically on the foundation’s owner and her husband.
