Air force scrambles F-16s to patrol western border

THE air force today (Nov. 1) scrambled F-16 fighter jets to patrol the western border, underscoring its readiness to safeguard Thai airspace and calling on all nations to respect Thailand’s sovereignty in accordance with international law, Amarin TV said.

AVM Charoen Wattanasrimongkol, the air force spokesperson, said at approximately 5 p.m. today, F-16 fighter jets from the Quick Reaction Alert (QRA) unit—part of Squadron 403, Wing 4, in Nakhon Sawan province— were scrambled for a combat air patrol mission along the western border.

This operation serves as a fundamental measure to demonstrate the posture and readiness of Thailand’s air power, while also signalling a firm stance that all countries must respect Thailand’s sovereign rights.

The air force had earlier issued an announcement to local residents at Mae Sot city, with Myanmar’s Myawaddy township just across the border, to not panic if they hear loud aircraft noise because two F-16 fighter jets had been sent on an aerial reconnaissance mission.

The air force emphasises that any use of military force by any nation must be conducted with appropriate restraint, ensuring no encroachment upon or harm caused to other countries—a principle that both the Thai air force and Thailand have consistently upheld as an international standard.

The spokesperson further stated that the air force possesses the capability to monitor and surveil the nation’s airspace, confirming its 24/7 operational readiness to protect Thai skies and defend national sovereignty with its full capacity.
