CENSURE debate and subsequent no-confidence votes against Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and 17 other Bhumjaithai members of cabinet were today (Oct.28) rescheduled for December, thus being put off from this week as earlier proposed.
Whips of the Anutin II cabinet, the Bhumjaithai-led government and the People’s-led opposition bloc today (Oct.28) resolved to reschedule the censure debate for the period between Dec.7 and Dec.10 to be followed by the no-confidence votes on Dec.11.
The four-day grilling session targeting the prime minister and those Bhumjaithai ministers without any of those attached to the Pheu Thai, the second largest coalition partner, was rescheduled for the upcoming December after Anutin had verbally excused for being tightly scheduled with ASEAN, APEC and ACMECS summits abroad as well as other official chores throughout next month.
The marathon censure debate will most certainly focus on sensational, unresolved issues of alleged, covert connections of certain Bhumjaithai figures such as the largest ruling party’s secretary-general/Digital Economy & Society Minister Chaichanok Chidchob and the first-time, Bhumjaithai MP Suchada Zhang Tansap and her Chinese spouse with money-laundering and online casino businesses, the Bhumjaithai rank and file’s alleged involvement in the 2024 senatorial rigging conspiracy and their alleged involvement in fraud scandals over last year’s exams for local government personnel, among other alleged misconduct and incompetence in running the country.
Those members of cabinet attached to the Bhumjaithai, core of the coalition government, who have become censure targets of the opposition bloc include Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Transport Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapat, Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Commerce Minister Supajee Suthumpun, Deputy Prime Ministers Pakorn Nilprapun and Songsak Thongsri, Defence Minister Adul Boonthamcharoen, Justice Minister Rutthapon Naowarat, Tourism & Sports Minister Surasak Pancharoenworakul, Natural Resources & Environment Minister Suchart Chomklin, Deputy Interior Ministers Jayset Thaiset and Worasit Liangprasit, Deputy Transport Minister Siripong Ungkasakulkiat, Prime Minister’s Office Ministers Paradorn Prisnanuntakul, Suksomruay Wantaneeyakul, Napinthorn Srisanpang and Supamas Israpakdee, the digital economy & society minister and the prime minister who concurrently acts as interior minister and leader of the largest ruling party steered behind the scenes by Chaichanok’s father/de facto party boss Newin Chidchob.
