Big lot of smuggled cosmetics seized in Chanthaburi

A JOINT force of marine rangers, customs officials, and immigration officers seized 57 sacks of contraband cosmetics illegally smuggled into the country in Chanthaburi today (Oct. 3), TV Channel 7 said.

The team detained Mr. Kritidech (surname withheld), 37, a resident of this eastern province, and seized the pickup truck and trailer he was driving after finding 27 sacks that were tightly secured and covered with a tarpaulin holding contraband cosmetics. Among them were facial creams, body lotions, sunscreens, and sheet masks as well as other types of cosmetics.

Subsequently, officers expanded their search to the surrounding area and found an additional 30 sacks of goods hidden inside a hut at a longan orchard in Pong Nam Ron district taking the total volume of seized cosmetics to 57 sacks.

Additional Chanthaburi customs officials were called to inspect the contraband cosmetics and verify various details such as duty values, and relevant legal statutes under which this case falls before taking further legal action.

Investigation is being expanded to trace the origin of the goods and the smuggling route, as well as to identify other involved parties.
