Thaksin helps PM gear for censure debate starting tomorrow

DE FACTO Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra said this evening (March 23) that he has helped his daughter/Prime Minister Paetongtan Shinawatra prepare for the non-confidence debate starting tomorrow and is confident she would be able to answer all the questions asked within the rules, Amarin TV said.

As for the big target, which is Thaksin having been invariably accused of virtually pulling the strings of the “puppet” prime minister, he replied that there probably would not be any problem with Paetongtarn able to answer all the questions and what she could not she would have to tell them it is not within the rules.

He added that he met Paetongtarn a little while ago and she was in a good mood. They had a discussion and did some homework to get more solid information for tomorrow’s censure debate.

Asked whether the prime minister would sleep well tonight, Thaksin said she would get a good night’s rest and there shouldn’t be any problems.

On the opposition likely raising hearsay that a “country exchange deal” had been struck on bringing his sister/former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra back to Thailand, Thaksin told reporters not to ask rhetorical questions and who would have the right to exchange the country.

Asked again that he had earlier said Yingluck would be back in Thailand to celebrate Songkran this year and what obstacles had now cropped up to prevent her return, Thaksin replied that what one wants and what the reality is may not be the same thing and that she would return when the time is right and it is not appropriate to do so right now.

Yingluck had been earlier found guilty of duty negligence charges for mishandling the rice subsidy programme and sentenced by court to five-year imprisonment after her government’s ousting in a 2014 military coup. She has been living overseas for over six years to avoid jail.

Asked whether his relationship with the elite is still good, Thaksin said he has no problems with them but there are people who have problems with him but he has no problems with anyone.

If others have issues with him he does not know what to do because he has not fought with anyone.

When asked again whether his work is attracting the attention of the elite, Thaksin said if people think about the country as a whole they will see that there are problems that have been festering for a long time and resolving them will take time, this cannot be done quickly, but is within the scope of what can be done.
