TWO Indian tourists were seen in a video clip beating up a fellow countryman in the middle of a Pattaya road with a Thai woman, believed to be the latter’s girlfriend, stepping in to try to stop the assault early in the morning and all were rounded up and taken to the police station, Amarin TV said this evening (June 30).
The short video clip seen by reporters of this TV channel ends at the point where the Thai woman tried to protect the Indian man dressed in black who was being bashed up by the other two Indian men, ignoring other tourists and locals in the vicinity.
Reporters discovered that the punch-up took place at 6.10 a.m. on Saturday June 29 in front of Marine Plaza Hotel near the entrance of Soi 16, south Pattaya, which teems with tourists day and night as people can cross over to Walking Street from this point. There are also several Indian and Arab restaurants there.
A local resident said he was sitting waiting for a bus on the opposite side of the road when he saw the Indian men quarrelling but he did not pay attention because there are a lot of Indian tourists in this area who often get drunk and argue with each other.
However when he looked again he saw them assaulting each other as seen in the video clip but he did not know what triggered the fight. Even so police soon showed up and rounded them up and took them to the police station.
This incident followed three Vietnamese loan sharks attacking a debtor from their country and seriously injuring him in the middle of Pattaya.
The local resident urged Tourist and Immigration police who mainly deal with foreigners to quickly control the situation as it is damaging Pattaya’s reputation.
