SEVERAL hours of continuous heavy rain since this morning (June 30) has led to almost the entire island of Phuket being heavily flooded and 14 flights diverted, PPTV HD 36 said.
Phuket Information Centre said 14 flights were unable to land at Phuket airport due to poor weather conditions and were diverted to Surat Thani, Krabi, Suvarnabhumi and Don Mueang airports in Thailand, as well as Langkawi and Penang airports in Malaysia.
Floodwaters that have still to drain out swamped several areas even as forest runoffs gushed in including Tha Rua Monument intersection, Koh Kaew housing estate in front of the Muslim school, the road behind an international school, Kathu-Na Koh road, Blue Tree entertainment hub in Cherg Talay with small cars unable to pass these areas.
In addition at Loch Palm Golf Club in Kathu district floodwaters flowing down a hill have inundated houses and cars. This route is impassable but Kathu municipality is helping flood victims.
Similarly forest runoffs gushing down a hill have made it impossible for cars to pass through the stretch of Srisoonthorn road where Blue Tree is located with many houses along this road too flooded.
However once it stops raining and there is no additional downpour for a few hours the floodwaters would drain into the sea.
