PATTAYA police are moving to close a motorcycle taxi stand after the riders there again assaulted a tourist with a video clip of the punch-up circulated online, Amarin TV said today (June 24).
Reporters of this television station talked to motorbike riders at this stand, which is in front of Central Pattaya shopping mall, and they said the night shift riders had told a tourist who parked his motorcycle nearby to move out.
However the tourist got annoyed and made an obscene gesture which angered the riders who then encircled and assaulted him.
Pol. Col. Navin Therawit, head of Pattaya city police station, said the tourist who was beaten up is a Russian national and he has been sent for a physical examination.
The riders who attacked him all face charges with a medical report on the tourist’s condition awaited before proceeding.
He added that this is the third time motorcyclists at this stand have been involved in a similar incident since the end of last year.
He has already talked about closing this motorcycle taxi stand with the district chief and will soon be sending letters to the agencies involved that this be done.
