A FRENCH woman was arrested at a hotel in Silom area on the charges of heading a gang that had hatched a plan to kidnap the daughter of a high-society family for 200 million baht ransom, Amarin TV said today (Apr. 19).
At 10 p.m. last night Metropolitan Police arrested Ms.Sandra Christina Marie Diersten, 45, at a hotel in Silom Soi 3 under a warrant issued on April 5, 2024.
Police said they took action after this well-known family, whose initial is Sor, had filed a complaint at Thong Lor police station that a gang of foreigners intended to kidnap their daughter and rob them of 200 million baht.
However the plot collapsed after one of the gang members changed his mind and alerted the family. Upon being informed police conducted an investigation then obtained an arrest warrant for the suspect.
Pol. Maj. Gen. Teeradej Thamsuthee, commander of Metropolitan Police’s investigation division, found out that the suspect was hiding with a Lebanese man and had been switching hotels where they rented a room on daily basis and had been regularly meeting their accomplices.
Upon finding out that the French woman was staying in a hotel in Silom area yesterday, Pol. Maj. Gen. Teeradej led a team to arrest her at her room.
Diersten denied all charges while being arrested and insisted that she was not an underworld spy carrying out a mission.
She related that she herself is an established businesswoman and was deceived by an Australian man who is husband in Thailand into investing approximately 185 million baht in this country and was cheated.
After that the Australian gang had framed her by saying she intended to kidnap the daughter of this well-known family so as to clear the debts, she added.
She also mentioned that she had entered Thailand without giving official notice because she feared for her safety and that she met the Lebanese man staying with her in Dubai.
However she was taken to Thong Lor police station for prosecution according to the law.
