THE biological mother of a 12-year-old Thai girl abandoned at a massage parlour in Tokyo, Japan, for prostitution has been detained in Taiwan in a separate prostitution-related case, Naewna newspaper quoted foreign media as saying this evening (Nov. 8).
In September this year this young girl filed a complaint at the Japanese Immigration Bureau alleging she was forced into sex work at a massage parlour.
Japanese police have arrested Mr. Masayuki Hosono, 51, who is the manager of Relax Time massage parlour located in a rented room at a building in Tokyo’s Bunkyo Ward near Ueno.
The girl and her mother arrived in Japan late June and she was brought to this massage parlour where she was taught massage techniques after which her mother fled back to Thailand mid-July. She had said she would return to pick her up but had in fact abandoned her there. She had to sleep on the kitchen floor and was paid a small amount of money for food.
According to Taiwanese immigration officials, the mother is being detained at a facility in New Taipei City in northern Taiwan. She entered Taiwan in September and overstayed her visa, Asahi Shimbun newspaper said.
After Taiwan police arrested her, she was turned over to the immigration authorities.
According to Thai media reports, National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Kitrat Panphet said yesterday they had learned the mother was in Taiwan.
A high-ranking Thai police officer said Taiwan authorities informed them yesterday that the mother had been arrested on suspicion of involvement in prostitution.
Thai police had asked their Taiwan counterparts to search for the mother, who will likely be turned over to Thai police.
The girl told the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department that her mother worked in the sex industry in Singapore and Taiwan from a base in Japan.
The girl lived with her grandparents in Thailand and spent almost no time with her mother.
