THE PHEU THAI PLANS TO quietly press the Prachachart to return the post of House Speaker to the largest ruling party soon after the first round of cabinet reshuffle has been done, a partisan source said today (Apr 18).
Given the fact that the Pheu Thai remains as core of the current coalition government with 141 MPs on their side, the Prachachart with only nine MPs led by Justice Minister Tawee Sodsong is sooner than later bound to return the highest seat in the legislative branch to the Pheu Thai, according to the partisan source who only spoke on condition of anonymity.
The Prachachart-attached House Speaker Wan Muhamad Nor Matha was not available to comment while Tawee denied he had been pressed by the ruling Pheu Thai, albeit in behind-the-scenes fashion, over that matter.
Many Pheu Thai MPs have already concluded Nor Matha’s performance at parliament as “rather non-neutral and dissatisfactory” whilst the highest legislative seat given to him has remained obviously disproportionate to the Prachachart’s numerical inferiority to the Pheu Thai, the partisan source said.
The Pheu Thai move toward a change of the House speaker is apparently following hearsay that Public Health Minister Chonlanan Srikaew would likely be reshuffled out of the cabinet at the order of the de facto Pheu Thai boss.
Chonlanan had been earlier speculated to be named House speaker shortly following last year’s election during which he had performed as Pheu Thai leader, albeit in only-by-name manner, and under hush-hush instructions from de facto party boss Thaksin Shinawatra via the latter’s right-hand man Phumtham Wechayachai.
Besides, Defence Minister Suthin Khlangsang is as well anticipated to be reshuffled out of the cabinet and be instead given the roles of a deputy House speaker in place of Pheu Thai MP Pichet Chuamuengparn or chief government whip at parliament in place of Pheu Thai MP Wisut Chaiyanarun.
