German presenter attacked while walking on Phuket beach

GERMAN presenter Cathy Hummels, 34, who is married to Borussia Dortmund central defender Mats Hummels, was attacked on a Phuket beach last Saturday but is now doing well “according to the circumstances,” News.i-n24.com and Amarin TV said today (Feb.10).

Cathy said she went for a walk on the beach on Saturday evening to say goodbye to the location where she was part of the filming of RTL II show “Kampf der Realitystars” when a man crept up from behind and attacked her.

“I got hit on the head from behind. The perpetrator hit me several times,” Hummels told Bild newspaper. “At some point I realised that this is a matter of life and death and I started to fight back.”

She yelled at the man: “Take what you want and let me live.” The attacker then took her cell phone – everything she had with her – and ran away.

“I gathered all my strength and ran back to the hotel. The whole time I only thought about my little son Ludwig (four years old).”

Arriving at the hotel, the TV crew immediately called the police. Cathy was able to describe the perpetrator precisely and filed a complaint and he has now been identified. That same evening, she flew to Dubai, where she finally met her son Ludwig and is holidaying there with him.

She told the newspaper she was still in pain “But it will be fine. The shock is very deep, though. I’m grateful to be alive.”

Her husband, Mats Hummels, 33, was aware of his wife being attacked but he could not come to see her in Dubai because he had to play for Borussia Dortmund against Union Berlin on Sunday Feb. 13 with this being a Bundesliga match.

The club could not allow him to travel overseas because upon returning to Germany he would have to be quarantined according to the Covid-19 measures which would lead to him missing many matches.
