Foreign man hit, killed by car in Pattaya

AN UNIDENTIFIED foreign man died after being hit by a car while crossing a road in Pattaya soon after midnight last night (Dec. 5) with the driver blaming him for suddenly jumping in front of his vehicle, TV Channel 7 said.

The accident occurred at 12.16 a.m. on the inbound side of Sukhumvit road running through South Pattaya. Rescuers rushed there and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) but were unable to save his life.

Upon being questioned, the unidentified 54-year-old driver of a multi-purpose vehicle (MPV)  said he was driving to Bangkok at normal speed. Soon after passing through traffic lights he claimed the foreign man jumped in front of his vehicle from such a short distance he was unable to brake in time.

He then quickly parked his MPV and came out to check the victim and immediately called for help.

An eyewitness, who was driving behind the MPV, said he saw the man getting ready to cross the road and slowed down then stopped. This man seemed to have changed his mind and stood still but when the MPV got close he instead jumped in front of it.

Pol. Lt. Anirut Chaoha took photos of the fatal accident and also obtained clips from a dashcam and nearby surveillance cameras to summarise the cause of the tragic death of the foreigner whether it was a suicide attempt or just an accident.

Rescuers moved the deceased man’s body to Bang Lamung Hospital from where his relatives could take for a funeral.
