Senior doctor confirms Thaksin did undergo surgery last week

A SENIOR doctor at Police Hospital confirmed this afternoon (Sep. 19) that de facto Pheu Thai leader Thaksin Shinawatra did undergo a surgery last week after his daughter Paetongtarn Shinawatra mentioned it earlier in the day, Naewna newspaper said.

Pol. Lt. Gen. Sophonrat Singhajaru, chief medical officer at Police Hospital, said Thaksin, who came back to Thailand on Aug. 22 and after spending barely half a day at a nursing unit in the premises of the prison was rushed to the hospital, needed a surgery due to many symptoms and reasons.

He added that Thaksin is now in safe condition and is gradually improving.

Speaking at Pheu Thai Party headquarter Paetongtarn, head of Pheu Thai Family, told reporters it is best to ask the doctors about her father’s condition after the surgery.

As for his blood pressure, some days it is good others not so good, she said, adding she does not know how long he will stay in the hospital.
