Korean couple commit suicide in Phuket after business failure

A KOREAN couple who ran a cosmetics and beauty products store in Phuket’s Karon subdistrict were today (July 12) found hanged at their shophouse in what police believe was a suicide after their business collapsed, Amarin TV said.

Pol. Lt. Col. Ekasak Kwanwan, an inspector at Karon police station, rushed to the three-story shophouse within Night Market Plaza together with a forensic doctor from Vachira Phuket Hospital and rescuers from Phuket Charity Foundation upon being alerted of the couple’s death.

There was a foul smell at the shophouse where they found the Korean couple, Mr. Eun Ki Hong, 52, and Ms. Eun Young Lee, 44, hanged at the second floor stair railing. It is believed that they had been dead for at least three days.

The couple had leased the shophouse for two years at 60,000 baht a month with the first year up upcoming October and two months’ rent owed to the landlord.

They ran their business, Beauty Korean Cosmetics, on the ground floor with there being a bedroom on the second floor.

Police initially believe the cause of death to have arisen from their beauty business not attracting enough customers with this leading to stress.

Their bodies were sent to Vachira Phuket Hospital for autopsy with police to also coordinate with the South Korean embassy to contact their relatives for funeral.
