GRANTED bail to take exams by two courts this afternoon (Dec. 1) was protest leader Ms. Panusaya Sitthichirawattanakul, or Rung, with this temporary release under strict conditions to end on Jan. 12, 2022, Matichon newspaper said.
Mr. Krisadang Nutcharat, from the Centre for Human Rights Lawyers, said a team of lawyers had applied for bail in two cases under Criminal Code Section 112,or lese majeste law.
One involved wearing a crop top to Siam Paragon shopping mall on December 20, 2020 with bail application made at Southern Bangkok Criminal Court, and the other related to a protest in Ayutthaya on August 21, 2020 with similar application made at Ayutthaya Provincial Court.
Rung had already been granted bail under the same strict conditions till Jan. 12, 2022 in two other cases, with these involving demonstrations held on September 19-20, 2020 and December 2, 2020.
Krisadang said this development means Rung will definitely be released from prison.
The courts set strict conditions for her temporary release with the defendant being prohibited from undertaking activities that affect the monarchy or join demonstrations, barred from leaving her home except for medical treatment, to study and take exams, or contact government agencies and the courts. She is also forbidden from leaving the country.
She has to wear an electronic tracking device with Assistant Professor Boonlert Wisetpreecha to supervise her and ensure she complies with their order.
No surety was imposed but there will be 90,000 bath fine if she breaks the terms the courts had set.
