Update: Killer cop’s accomplice caught in Phang Nga

 

THE accomplice of a policeman who killed his father-in-law and two other relatives at their house in Surat Thani on Saturday evening (Apr. 8) with his wife, son and brother also now dead has been arrested in Phang Nga, Thai Rath newspaper said this afternoon (Apr. 10).

National Police Chief Pol. Gen. Damrongsak Kittipraphat said at around 11 a.m. an unemployed man only identified as Mr. Manop, who accompanied Pol.Snr.Sgt.Maj.Attaporn Wichien, 46, in the deadly attack was arrested in Phang Nga armed with an M16 rifle.

Killed on Saturday evening (Apr. 8) were Mr. Thammarong Nilniyom, or Phoo Yai Rong, 60, a former village headman and owner of the house in Bang Ngon subdistrict, Phunphin district, his wife Mrs. Nilthip Palakachen, or Taeng, 49, his brother Mr. Pornsak Petchchu, or Phoo Yai Kraw, 56, also a former village headman, with the policeman’s brother Mr. Thammarat Wichien, 48, who was only recently released from jail, also found dead there.

Attaporn’s wife, Ms Panida Nilniyom, or Tak, who is Thammarong’s daughter by his first wife, was found shot dead at a resort this morning while his son, only identified as Mr. Bass, 22, was found dead in a sedan last night.

Pol. Gen. Damrongsak said investigation showed that Bass was killed by his father with autopsy and evidence also showing that he had killed his wife before launching the attack on his father-in-law’s oil palm plantation house.

He added that Attaporn will be arrested soon as all channels to pursue him are being used.

He also held talks with the chief of Provincial Police Region 8 on permitting policemen to carry various weapons as even though this is necessary for the cases they handle these weapons had to be carefully issued and improvement made on doing so.
