Elderly Frenchman blacks out, hits 10 vehicles in Pattaya

A 78-year-old Frechman lost control of his pickup truck and hit a food vendor’s tricycle, seriously injuring her, then slammed into over 10 other motorcycles and cars parked at the side of a Pattaya road after apparently blacking out, Sanook.com said this afternoon (Aug. 18).

Pol. Col. Chonlawit Athipansi, deputy inspector for Investigation at Pattaya City police station, rushed to the scene of the accident at Thepprasit road together with Sawang Boriboon rescue workers.

At the scene where over 10 motorcycles and cars had been damaged was the badly injured vendor of around 40 to 45 years of age who the rescuers quickly took to the hospital.

Eyewitnesses said that when the pickup truck driven by the unidentified Frenchman reached this point, it suddenly slammed into the food vendor’s tricycle and then swept through hitting the other vehicles, toppling some of them with their belongings scattering on the road.

Pol. Col. Chonlawit said he believes the elderly foreigner probably blacked out and lost control of his vehicle leading to this multiple crash but he will be questioning him and taking appropriate legal action.
