1 dead as insurgents ambush Pattani defence volunteers

SOME INSURGENTS ambushed members of Territorial Defence Corps in Mai Kaen district, Far South Pattani province, killing one of them and injuring another today (Oct. 16), Amarin TV and TV Channel 7 said.

The attack by an unknown number of assailants using firearms of an unidentified type and calibre occurred at around 1.30 p.m. just as the defence volunteers were travelling by motorcycle to attend prayers.

The deceased defence volunteer was identified as Mr. Rusli Uma with his body and the injured team member being taken to Mai Kaen Hospital in this same district for medical treatment and further procedures.

Security forces, comprising personnel from three branches, have secured the area to prevent any further threats. They are now conducting an investigation and gathering evidence to bring the perpetrators to justice.
