METROPOLITAN police have blocked Rama IV intersection with shipping containers as part of heightened security measures for the 2026 IMF-World Bank meetings, restricting vehicle access to authorised personnel only, PPTVHD36 said today (Oct. 16).
Reporters at the scene, near Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre where the meetings are taking place, said Metropolitan Police Bureau and Crowd Control Division officers had put shipping containers beneath the flyover bridge leading to the venue.
Police teams are stationed behind this barrier to maintain order and ensure security.
Prior to this, authorities had announced the closure of roads surrounding the convention centre for the duration of the IMF-World Bank meetings. Police vehicles and crowd-control units remain on standby near the intersection.
Police are only allowing authorised vehicles to enter and exit this area. Additionally, MRT Queen Sirikit National Convention Centre station has been temporarily closed since 9 a.m. Those heading to the convention centre are advised to get off nearby stations and continue on foot.
Members of Thai and international press, as well as personnel arriving to cover the IMF-World Bank meetings, must proceed on foot to designated screening checkpoints to enter the inner zone.
Security scanners have been installed at each entrance point. Police officers are on hand to provide information, inspect bags, and temporarily seize any prohibited items; these may be reclaimed upon leaving the area.
