IN TWO opinion polls on handling the recent big floods in Bangkok residents gave high marks Governor Chadchart Sittipunt, volunteers and military while Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul trailed at the bottom, PPTVHD36 said today (Oct. 11).
The latest NIDA poll, which gauged Bangkok residents’ opinions on individuals, organisations, or groups deserving praise for their assistance during the September floods, three most appreciated groups were foundations, rescue teams, and volunteer organisations (45.95%), followed by the sentiment that “no one deserves praise” (30.23%).
Next was Bangkok Governor Chadchart (16.14%), whereas the government and the Prime Minister Anutin trailed at the bottom, both receiving an approval rating of 1.76%.
These results align closely with a Suan Dusit survey, which asked respondents to rate the performance of various individuals and agencies in tackling the flood crisis on a scale of one to 10 with the result being as follows:
1/ Local military personnel – 6.37 points;
2/ Chadchart – 5.44 points;
3/ Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation – 4.74 points;
Meanwhile, Anutin ranked last (10th place) with a score of 3.08 points.
Suan Dusit poll organisers observed that just as the floods caused damage to citizens’ homes, the government’s and Anutin’s approval ratings also suffered damage—reflecting a state response that fell far short of public expectations.
