18 cabinet members including PM targeted under censure motion

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

EIGHTEEN members of cabinet, mostly attached to the Bhumjaithai, core of the current coalition government under Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, will be grilled on the floor of the House of Representatives as targets of an approaching censure debate to be almost immediately followed by no-confidence votes against them.

The People’s-led opposition bloc today (Oct.8) formally filed a censure motion to House Speaker Sopon Sarum for the marathon censure debate to be held at parliament within a two-week time or around the latter part of this month to see the prime minister and 17 other members of cabinet, mostly attached to the Bhumjaithai steered behind the scenes by de facto party boss Newin Chidchob, taken to task for a few consecutive days before they are subsequently given either votes of no-confidence or votes of confidence the next day.

“The opposition bloc has now filed a censure and no-confidence motion against the Blue regime which has been unjustly exploiting the country and virtually becoming opponents to democratic rule not only in regard to the House of Representatives but the Senate and independent agencies,” opposition/People’s leader Nattapong Ruengpanyawut concluded. In political jargon, “Blue” is the tone which refers to the ultra-conservative ruling party.

The targeted Bhumjaithai members of cabinet will be extensively grilled mostly by the People’s and Democrat MPs over alleged bones of contention about unresolved, worsened corruption and incompetence in their running of the country.

That refers to significant, unresolved issues ranging from, among others, 2024’s senatorial rigging conspiracy in which many had been allegedly involved to see as many as 138 of the total 200 senatorial seats allegedly won by their illegitimately-, covertly-assisted contestants, last year’s premeditated fraud over exams for local government personnel and disreputable money-laundering scams including the one allegedly involving a Bhumjaithai woman lawmaker and her spouse-turned-scam suspect to critical floodings in the provinces and the capital Bangkok.

Those censure-targeted cabinet members, mostly attached to Newin’s camp, include Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Transport Minister Pipat Ratchakitprakarn, Deputy Prime Minister Songsak Thongsri, Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapat, Deputy Prime Minister-cum-Commerce Minister Supajee Suthumpun, Deputy Prime Minister Pakorn Nilprapan, Defence Minister Adul Boonthamcharoen, Newin’s son/the party’s secretary-general/Digital Economy & Society Minister Chaichanok Chidchob, Deputy Digital Economy & Society Minister Nan Boontida Somchai, Tourism & Sports Minister Surasak Pancharoenworakul, Deputy Interior Ministers Jayset Thaiset and Worasit Liangprasit. Deputy Transport Ministers Patrapong Patraprasit and Siripong Ungkasakulkiat, Prime Minister’s Office Ministers Paradorn Prisnanuntakul, Napintorn Srisanpang, Suksomruay Wantaneeyakul and Supamas Israpakdee and the prime minister who concurrently acts as interior minister and Bhumjaithai leader.
