Rukchanok says no to Bhumjaithai dissolution due to Suchada’s ill-gotten donations

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

PEOPLE’S MP Rukchanok Srinork today (Oct.16) expressed an ultimate objection to any moves to have the Bhumjaithai, core of the coalition government, dissolved by court only because a certain lawmaker may have made donations in cash to the ruling party whilst her spouse has allegedly owned an online gambling business.

Rukchanok posted on her Facebook page to air her strong dissent to legal action in pursuit of a dissolution of the Bhumjaithai, steered behind the scenes by de facto party boss Newin Chidchob, supposedly at an order of the Constitutional Court because the largest ruling party had received the allegedly ill-gotten money from Bhumjaithai MP Suchada Zhang Tansap whose spouse, Taiyang Zhang, reportedly owns an online casino, namely Shuffle.com, through which some gamblers in Thailand may have placed bets.

Rukchanok contended that the existence and activities of the Bhumjaithai would by no means substantially hinge on ill-gotten gains supposedly granted by any of their partisan members or others, thus providing no basis for any moves to have the ruling party dissolved by court.

The opposition MP insisted that her contention was not primarily meant to defend any party but merely showcased a matter of principle and upheld rules of law.

Suchada had reportedly donated 10,000 baht in cash monthly to Newin’s camp before she was an elected lawmaker and her donation had been raised to 30,000 baht monthly after she became one in the general election held earlier this year with the total so far amounting to 150,000 baht.

Nevertheless, Rukchanok remarked that the first-time Bhumjaithai MP might probably be charged in a criminal lawsuit for allegedly becoming “unusually rich” and concealing part of her assets formally shared with Taiyang, an Australian national of Chinese descent, who was reported as a founding investor of Natural Nine BV Casino which owns and operates Shuffle.com.

If found guilty as charged in court, Suchada could possibly be deprived of her legislative status and banned from political activity for a number of years.

The Zhang family who had earlier declared some 1.9 billion baht in assets to the National Anti-Corruption Commission were suspected to have large amounts of wealth yet undeclared and hidden from the authorities, fueling allegations that they had been substantially gained from illegal businesses.
