2 Uzbek men nabbed at Phuket Airport for smuggling cannabis

 

ARRESTED at Phuket Airport yesterday (July 1) were two Uzbek men on charges of attempting to smuggle dried cannabis flowers and resin out of the country in their luggage, Amarin TV said this morning.

The first suspect, Mr. Jalilboyevich Bunyodboy Juraboev, 26, was apprehended during baggage inspection at the Baggage Inspection Room on the first floor of the international departures terminal. Two of four suspicious suitcases contained 30 vacuum-sealed bags of dried cannabis flowers, weighing 9.8 kilogrammes including packaging, and 14 blocks of processed cannabis, weighing 1.03kg, including packaging.

The second suspect, Mr. Mukhiddinovich Nursayid Mukhiddinov, 26, was taken into custody at the Baggage Inspection Room on the third floor of the international departures terminal. Found in his baggage were 30 vacuum-sealed bags of cannabis flowers weighing 9.8kg including packaging, eight bags of cannabis resin weighing 4.1kg including packaging, and one package containing five blocks and nine chunks of processed cannabis weighing 2kg including packaging.

The two Uzbek passengers were taken in for questioning and confessed to being the owners of all suitcases in which dried cannabis flowers and resin were spotted in the X-ray machine and consented to a search.

Initially, the officers charged the suspects with “attempting to export goods out of the country without going through customs procedures” under the Customs Act B.E. 2560 (2017), as well as violating the Narcotics Act 2522 (1979) and the Ministry of Public Health’s announcement regarding controlled herbs (cannabis).

Following the arrest, the two suspects and the seized items were handed over to the investigating officers at Sakhu police station for legal proceedings with this case being under the supervision of Pol. Col. Salan Santisasanakul,this station’s superintendent.
