DEPUTY PRIME Minister-cum-Finance Minister Ekniti Nitithanprapas today (June 29) verbally embroidered the Bhumjaithai-led government’s economic development projects for fiscal 2027 simply by putting the word “plus” behind the titles of those schemes.
Given the current implementation of the populist copay campaign officially entitled the Thai Chuay (help) Thai Plus project, Ekniti took liberty to verbally exaggerate the other economic projects by adding the word “plus” at the end of the titles of those government schemes despite the fact that there is literally no “plus” behind those project names published in official papers pertaining to the 2027 budget legislation which were handed out to lawmakers and deliberated in the House of Representatives during a three-day session beginning today.
During the House meeting on the 3.78 trillion baht budget bill, the deputy prime minister-cum-finance minister spontaneously uttered the word “plus” at the end of the project names, apparently oblivious to the presence of the bewildered attendees many of whom were reading the relevant documents, seeing no “plus” in the papers.
Reading out the budget papers to the puzzled audience in the House, Ekniti added the invisible “plus” to say the Small-Sized People Plus project, Upgraded Trading Plus project, Investment Policy Plus project, Made In Thailand Plus project and Community Policy Plus project.
The 3.78 trillion baht budget bill was designed to see an estimated three trillion baht in state revenue, incurring some 780 billion baht in budget deficit, a 1.7-2.7% economic growth with inflation being calculated at a maximum of 1.5% throughout next fiscal year during which the Central Fund at the disposal of Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul was set to amount to 698 billion baht, regular government personnel pays to incur 850 billion baht, repayment to state debt to amount to 462 billion baht and repayment to the state coffer to total 71 billion baht whilst public debt was projected to remain at 12 trillion baht, accounting for 66.4% of the GDP.
