Khmer troops haven’t seized cliff in Buriram: Army

THE Second Army Region denied that Cambodian troops have seized Pha Inthra cliff area in Buriram province as mentioned in social media posts circulating widely today (Dec. 1) and is gearing up to take legal action against those spreading the fake news, PPTVHD36 said.

This regional army said a team from security agencies responsible for this area in Ban Kruat district of this lower Northeastern province, including Border Patrol Police 216, Ban Kruat district administration and forestry officials, visited it at 10 a.m. this morning and found no evidence or indication of Cambodian military presence, land clearing or road construction within Thai territory, as had been claimed.

Satellite images and field topographic surveys revealed no troop movements or tactical activities by Cambodian forces in the area. The surrounding area remains densely forested, with only traces of old roads unused for a long time.

The team went up the cliff by motorcycles because poor road conditions prevented large vehicles from accessing the area.

Pha Inthra cliff is located on Sai Tri 6 Tai, Bueng Charoen subdistrict, Ban Kruat district, approximately 12 kilometres from Highway 224. Border Patrol Police 216 base was formerly located here but it was shut in 1990. Therefore, the government has clear information and a history of this zone.

The Second Army Region has reached a preliminary conclusion that there is no indication of a violation of Thai sovereignty or a threat to the safety of citizens living near the border. The local task force continues to patrol and investigate to ensure the utmost clarity.

Regarding posts disseminated on social media that may cause confusion or panic, relevant officials have investigated the source of the information and are in the process of filing complaints under the Computer Crime Act against those disseminating the fake news.
