DE FACTO Pheu Thai boss Thaksin Shinawatra has postponed his first probation meeting from May 25 to May 28 while continuing to wear an EM bracelet without having requested to temporarily or permanently remove it, Naewna newspaper and Amarin TV said this morning (May 25).
The former prime minister was released from Klong Prem prison on a four-month probation on May 11 after serving eight months of a one-year term on condition of having to wear an EM bracelet with the designated parole location till his full release on Sept.11 being his Baan Chan Song La residence in Thoburi side of the metropolis.
Mr. Winyat Chatmontri, Thaksin’s lawyer, confirmed that the first probation meeting at Bangkok Probation Office 1 in Bangkok Noi district which was originally scheduled for today had been put off to Thursday May 28 at his request.
The Department of Probation confirmed that postponement of reporting sessions can be requested by both the probation officer and parolee, with the reasons for doing so clearly stated according to standard procedures.
Regarding a request to temporarily or permanently remove the EM bracelet, the lawyer emphasised that Thaksin has not submitted any documents requesting to do so, even when he underwent a health checkup at Rama 9 Hospital he did not ask for its temporary removal despite able to request this during the medical procedure for reattachment after it was completed.
Thaksin has to report to Bangkok Probation Office 1 once a month for four months until his sentence is completed. After May 28 the next appointments are on June 27, July 29, and August 31. However, each probation meeting can be postponed if necessary.
