SAKSAYAM CHIDCHOB has resigned as Bhumjaithai secretary-general and as a party-listed MP following today’s (Jan.17) court ruling delivered to his chagrin.
Saksayam, brother of de facto Bhumjaithai boss Newin Chidchob, has called it quits with immediate effect as secretary-general of the second largest coalition partner and simultaneously as an MP who had earlier run on party-listed mode in last year’s general election.
Bhumjaithai leader Anutin Charnvirakul said the former transport minister’s resignation from both legislative and partisan positions was welcomed as a show of responsibility for today’s event in which the Constitutional Court ruled him guilty of illicitly holding shares in Buri Charoen Construction Co. via a nominee whilst assuming a ministerial seat in a previous government, thus depriving him of the status of a member of cabinet, albeit in retroactive fashion.
The construction firm was practically viewed as a family business based in his home province of Buriram.
The Bhumjaithai executive board is yet to find a new secretary-general of Newin’s party in place of his brother who was immediately succeeded as MP by Chontida Asavahame, ranking fifth on the party list.
