GOING viral online is a video clip showing a motorcyclist hitting a female student at a pedestrian crossing on Ekachai road in Bang Khun Thian district seriously injuring her, Naewna newspaper said this evening (Feb. 4).
The surveillance camera clip shows two students crossing the road and while other vehicles slowed down, this motorcycle zoomed in at high speed and hit her sending her flying in the air then falling at the middle of the zebra crossing.
After that the motorcyclist who also fell got up to check on the injured student as did others nearby.
The release of this clip by Drama Addict Facebook page led to many netizens criticizing the reckless motorcyclist in their comments. Most noted that Thai motorcyclists often speed up when they see pedestrians cross the road instead of slowing down.
Some also warned that people should not try to move an injured person as it is advisable to wait for rescuers to do so with their gear to prevent further mishap.
Among similar accidents, one that took place in 2022 led to a woman doctor being killed at a pedestrian crossing on Phaya Thai road after being hit by a policeman speeding through on his motorcycle. He was dismissed from service after the court sentenced him to one year and 15 days imprisonment without parole and fined him 4,000 baht.
