Cobra Gold 2025 scheduled to begin next week

By Thai Newsroom Reporters

THE COBRA GOLD 2025 joint military exercise is scheduled to be held from February 25 until March 7 in Thailand whilst tensions in the South China Sea have evidently remained with maritime provocations and standoffs between the Philippines and China.

The 44th United States-led military exercise is primarily designed to promote interoperability, combat readiness and potential of allied countries in regard to security, peace and prosperity of the Indo-Pacific region which has been evidently laced with sustained tensions in the face of China’s maritime expansionism with their respective army, navy and air force units participating in the 10-day-long drills.

The annual joint exercise, the largest in the Indo-Pacific region, will be conducted at the Second Army Region headquarters in Nakhon Ratchasima, the Armed Forces Development Command in Chachoengsao, the Naval Fleet Command headquarters in Sattahip and the air force’s Wing 1 air base in Nakhon Ratchasima.

In addition to joint drills featuring command/control interoperability and tactical combat missions with the use of live ammunition, the Cobra Gold 2025 will engage in humanitarian aid and disaster relief exercises and non-combat, civilian-related activities.

Participant countries in the Cobra Gold joint military exercise, held for the first time in 1982, are the US, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Indonesia, Singapore and Thailand. The time-honoured relationships between the US and Thailand have laid an unfaltering foundation for the annual joint military exercise, which may have been downgraded in scale and significance during times of the latter’s anti-democracy coups.
