Court suspension of pro-Bhumjaithai senators’ duties sought

A LEGAL MOVE was made today (May 21) in pursuit of a Constitutional Court order to keep as many as 138 senators suspected of involvement in electoral fraud charges and allegedly associated with the Bhumjaithai from taking part in the naming of members of “independent” agencies by the end of this month.

Nataporn Toprayoon, a former adviser to the Office of the Ombudsman, today filed the fresh petition to the Constitutional Court via the Election Commission to consider suspending the legislative duties of the 138 pro-Bhumjaithai senators, pending the ongoing, in-depth investigation by the Department of Special Investigation, Anti-Money-Laundering Office and the polling agency into their suspected involvement in the vote-rigging, bloc-voting and money-laundering conspiracies over last year’s senatorial elections.

Those suspected senators whose involvement in the electoral fraud and money-laundering charges had been allegedly orchestrated by the Bhumjaithai under de facto party boss Newin Chidchob and so far performed at parliament in support of the second largest coalition partner would practically have no impartiality toward the naming of three members of the National Anti-Corruption Commission and one of the Office of Attorney-General during an extraordinary Senate session scheduled for May 30, according to the petitioner.

Nataporn has recently lodged a separate lawsuit calling on the Constitutional Court to consider dissolving Newin’s party on charges of undermining democratic rule with the monarch as head of state by allegedly orchestrating the senatorial rigging plots designed to make those senior lawmakers who would only look to serve their partisan interests at parliament such as the naming of members of the “independent” agencies including the Election Commission, Constitutional Court, NACC and OAG, among others.

Dozens of Bhumjaithai-associated senators have been so far subpoenaed by the polling agency with more to follow sooner or later for questioning over their alleged involvement in the electoral rigging, money-laundering shenanigans. As many as 12,000 senatorial candidates ranging from district and provincial levels to national level and as many as 20,000 cellphone numbers were reportedly found by the DSI to have been involved and used in the unprecedented electoral frauds.
