A SCHOOL in Phang Nga was terrified today (Aug. 20) after a man brandishing a gun threatened to mount an attack in an online post with the motive apparently stemming from a family dispute, Naewna newspaper said.
This followed a shooting spree at a Nonthaburi school on Aug. 7 with a 14-year-old male student having killed five teachers, a young girl, and injured over 20 others before taking his own life after having also killed his grandparents at their home.
A few days later a school in southern Hatyai city moved classes online for a couple of days after a former South African teacher allegedly posted messages and images of weapons that appeared to be a threat to shoot the administrators and teachers
The school threatened today is located in Takua Pa district of this southern coastal province with the suspect displaying a firearm as he specifically threatened this school in his social media post causing significant concern among parents and the public over the safety of their children and teachers as well as other staff.
To head off any trouble and ensure maximum security, the school administration temporarily closed it today and tomorrow (Aug. 20-21). Parents are urging authorities to quickly apprehend the perpetrator to restore safety in their community.
Last month, local administrative officials and a police team had inspected this school and deployed personnel to maintain tight security throughout the day.
Police have identified the man who issued this threat and will be summoning him for questioning and proceed with legal action.
Investigation revealed that the motive stemmed from a family dispute as the suspect was upset that his wife was preventing him from seeing their child.
