MOVE FORWARD MP RAKCHANOK Srinok was today (Dec.13) judged by court as guilty of lese majeste charges and sentenced to six years in jail but was eventually released on bail.

The Criminal Court ruled Rakchanok guilty of breaking the lese majeste law aka Section 112 of the Criminal Code by tweeting and retweeting content on social media which was judged as slanderous to the monarchy.

She had tweeted and retweeted on her X page certain messages two years earlier accusing a previous government under former prime minister Prayut Chan-o-cha of manipulating monopolistic distribution of AstraZeneca vaccine against Covid-19 in alleged connivance with the manufacturing firm named Siam Bioscience Co, owned by the monarch’s Crown Property Bureau.

Given the court verdict on the lese majeste charges, the six-year jail sentence was delivered to the woman lawmaker without penalty suspension.

Nevertheless, Rakchanok was finally freed by court on the 500,000-baht bail with her MP status remaining intact. She plans to fight her legal battle over the draconian law in the Appeals Court at a later date.
