ALTHOUGH the autopsy result shows a toddler whose body was found stuff in a fridge did choke and suffocate to death as sticky rice was found in his upper trachea, police are still investigating this case and looking at prosecuting the adoptive father’s sister for involvment, Amarin TV said late last night (Jan. 7).
Pol. Col. Somphon Wongsrisunthon, deputy commander of Nonthaburi police, said the deputy director of the Institute of Forensic Medicine told him that food fragments were found stuck in the small boy’s throat but there were no signs of abuse or injuries leading to his death.
The couple who said they adopted the two years and two months old toddler, Nong Nai, Mr. Hannarong Phraiphanom, or Bank, 31, and Ms. Marisa Thongiam, or Koi, 26, have been charged with not reporting a death and concealing the corpse. Hannarong faces an additional drug use charge.
The couple said they were shocked by the little boy’s death and did not know what to do as the boy had bite marks on him with Hannarong having previously bitten him as punishment and they were afraid of police taking legal action against them.
Hannarong’s grandfather who had given the boy rice to eat in a normal manner does not face charges because he is visually impaired.
However Hannarong’s sister, Ms. Kik, 24, is considered to have been involved in concealing the boy’s body and faces further interrogation, Pol. Col. Somphon said, however, adding that some of the information she has given so far is consistent.
While investigation revealed that Nong Nai was raised with love with no one in the family thinking of harming him, police have not yet ruled out any possibilities and are continuing to investigate this case and interviewing eyewitnesses in the neighbourhood.
The official autopsy result is due to be released on Wednesday, Jan. 10.
Nong Nai’s real father, Mr. Nopparat Duangngam, 29, told reporters upon coming to take his son’s body at Institute of Forensic Medicine in Pathum Thani for a funeral in Nonthaburi that although he had doubts about his son’s death the autopsy result is final.
