Covid cases soar in Phuket but drop in Chonburi

WHILE the national Covid count dipped to 7,133 cases and 12 deaths today (Jan. 11) the situation in Phuket remains worrisome as the total rose to 726 cases but improvement occurred in Chonburi, TV Channel 7 said this afternoon.

Public Health Ministry officials’ proactive search for patients led to Phuket logging 726 cases today with 468 being infected within the province but none were foreigners, 184 tested positive when entering the country via the Sandbox scheme while 74 likewise did so via Test & Go procedure.

Officials continue to rigorously screen foreign arrivals at Phuket International Airport. At the same time Vachira Phuket Hospital opened registration for the third booster jab at Saphan Hin vaccination centre with this continuing till Friday Jan. 14.

Meanwhile in Chonburi the number of daily Covid cases continued to decline from the peak of a thousand a day to 583 today.

However Bang Lamung district still logged the highest total of 220 cases followed by Sriracha district with 152 and Mueang Chonburi 88.

Of the national total of 7,133 cases today 411 came from overseas yet this overall total does not include 1,545 who tested positive via ATK with their infection still to be confirmed.

Since the beginning of this year there has been a total of 61,174 coronavirus cases with 32,291 having been cured.

However, the number of patients still undergoing treatment from the new and old waves totals 61,974 with 492 being in severe condition and 113 requiring ventilators.
