PRIME Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha ordered a curfew in 10 provinces including Bangkok for 14 days from Monday July 12 onwards at a meeting of the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) executive committee to control to coronavirus crisis with the number of daily cases soaring to 9,276 today (July 9) and there being 72 additional deaths, Siam Rath and Amarin TV said.
The state of emergency has also been extended by another two months till September 30, 2021.
In the 10 high-risk areas, including Bangkok, Pathum Thani, Samut Prakan, Samut Sakhon, Nonthaburi, Nakhon Pathom, Narathiwat, Pattani, Yala and Songkhla, people are forbidden from leaving their homes from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. for 14 days.
All businesses, including convenience stores, must close at 8 p.m. and there will be no public transport from 9.30 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Work from home is in effect 100 percent and gathering of more than five people is forbidden. Those who have to travel for work must show evidence of having received two coronavirus jabs.
CCSA had earlier announced that there were 9,276 new cases in 24 hours to this morning taking the cumulative confirmed total since the start of the pandemic to 317,506 and in the current wave that started in April 288,643.
The 72 more fatalities raised the death toll to 2,534.
Of the new batch of cases 6,324 emerged in surveillance and service systems, 2,651 through proactive search in communities, 278 fell sick in prisons and detention centres while 23 overseas arrivals were quarantined.
Another 3,928 people were cured taking total recoveries since the start of the pandemic to 240,077 and in the current wave 212,651. Currently there are 74,895 patients under treatment with 2,685 in severe condition and 701 requiring ventilators.
From February 28 to July 7, 2021 altogether 11,975,996 doses of vaccine have been administered divided as follows:
– Another 305,925 people got their first jabs, adding up to 8,800,155 who have done so;
– An additional 50,453 people got their second jab, raising the total to 3,175,841.
