THE new coronavirus cluster centred around pubs in Thonglor area has spread to Chonburi province after a group of five Japanese people and one Thai person were found to be infected after coming to Bangkok for a party, the Chonburi Province Provincial Health Office said on its Facebook page this morning (April 5).
Of these six patients, two of them had actually joined the party while the other four came into contact with them, Thai Rath newspaper said.
A seventh Covid patient had come from Samut Prakan for treatment at this adjacent province.
Chonburi has been searching for those who came into contact with the six people who got infected in Bangkok and has tested 110 of them with results of 20 cases having emerged and three found to be infected.
Chonburi residents were urged to refrain from visiting entertainment venues in Bangkok and its suburbs during this period.
Meanwhile the Centre for Covid-19 Situation Administration (CCSA) said at 11.30 a.m. today that there were 194 new Covid cases over the past 24 hours taking the cumulative confirmed total to 29,321.
An additional 66 patients have been cured taking the total number of those discharged from hospital so far to 27,840 while 1,386 are still hospitalized. There were no more fatalities with the toll remaining at 95.
Of this new batch of patients 87 emerged in surveillance and service systems while 95 were found through proactive search in communities. Twelve overseas arrivals were placed in state quarantine.
