ONE of the yachts moored at Ao Po Grand Marina in Thalang district of Phuket caught fire yesterday but while it was quickly extinguished the blaze still caused three-million-baht damage, INN News and Sanook.com reported today (Dec. 24).
The fire broke out at the right aft ladder and spread to the stern. However a security official saw it and quickly put it out with there being no injuries but the stern area damaged.
The yacht’s captain said this vessel is usually moored at Boat Lagoon Marina in Phuket town. However on Tuesday Dec. 22, low tide prevented him from taking it there so he brought it to Ao Po Grand Marina for one night’s berthing, without a guard stationed to protect it.
He intended to sail out and moor the yacht at its usual place but unfortunately this fire has prevented him from doing so.
It is reported that this vessel belongs to an important politician whose name starts with the letter “Thor” with a big businessman being the co-owner.
