FORMER Miss Thailand and actress Ms. Panadda Wongphudee, aka Boom, was escorted by police from her luxury home in Nawamin area to Crime Suppression Division (CIB) headquarters to face charges of misusing donations to Ongkorn Tham Dee (Doing Good) Foundation arriving there at 11.35 a.m. today (Nov. 6) while her husband, Mr. Athip Anantawan, aka Got, had surrendered earlier in the morning, Amarin TV said.
The suspects face charges of colluding to commit public fraud, conspiring (with two or more individuals) to commit money laundering—with the act of money laundering subsequently carried out—and inputting distorted, forged, or false computer data into a computer system in a manner likely to cause harm to the public.
The trip started at 10.35 a.m. after police searched her residence for over four hours during which they gathered additional evidence. Throughout the journey, neither Panadda nor her lawyer rolled down the windows nor gave the press a statement. It is expected that investigators will conduct a detailed interrogation at the CIB headquarters.
Upon arrival, Panadda gave a “wai” (a traditional Thai greeting) to the press. Her expression and eyes appeared visibly weary, exhausted, and sombre. She then proceeded inside to undergo questioning in accordance with legal procedures.
As she walked, she remarked, “I am willing to go through the legal process.” When asked by the press, “How did it come to this?” she chose not to respond. Instead, she continued to offer a “wai” to those around her and said, “I apologise to everyone,” before walking inside accompanied by her lawyer.
Investigators are scheduled to take Panadda and her husband, Athip, to the Criminal Court tomorrow at 10 a.m. to request their initial remand, while also filing an objection to their release on bail. At the same time, at 10 a.m., Pol. Lt. Gen. Nattasak Chaowanasai, CIB commissioner, will hold a press conference to summarise the arrests and provide details of the case.
Athip had arrived at the CIB headquarters to surrender at 8.15 a.m. He was dressed in a black suit and trousers, wearing dark glasses and a black face mask. He had chosen to surrender rather than being arrested at his residence even though police had asked him to be present when they searched the premises out of concern he might be denied bail if apprehended.
