A SECTION of the pavement beneath elevated MRT Blue Line Fai Chai station near Fai Chai intersection in Bang Noi district, Thonburi, collapsed at 4 p.m. with Thai netizens voicing concern for public safety, Amarin TV said today (Aug. 25).
Fortunately there were no casualties in this mishap with officials quickly barricading the sinkhole and urgently investigating the cause.
Bangkok Noi district officials posted a photo and message on their webpage as follows:
“Pavement collapsed!!!
“Beneath the station at Fai Chai intersection,
“All units get ready,
“Public Works Department, district office,
“Metropolitan Waterworks Authority and Mass Rapid Transit Authority of Thailand.”
After the post circulated a lot of netizens voiced their concern, for example: “Very dangerous,” “It’s scary,” “The road is dimly lit and where else is the pavement going to collapse,” “Sand and soil is going down the pipe,” and “Nearby canal is in a bad state, not difficult to see.”
